ONLY A STRONG IRAN CAN SAFEGUARD THE SECURITY OF ISRAEL
LONDON 22 Jan. (IPS) A leading Iranian newspaper warned Israel not to seek to weaken or destroy Iran as only a strong Iran can safeguard a lasting peace and security for the whole region, including Israel itself.
Commenting on the Israel's sustained efforts to stop Iran acquiring modern weapons needed for it's "legitimate" defence, the London-based Iranian independent weekly newspaper "Nimrooz" said there was no reason that Israel have access to all kind of most modern warfare including nuclear bomb and Iran, a country surrounded by big and small enemies on all fronts, be deprived.
Under the title of "Necessity for the Presence of a Strong Iran", the Persian-language weekly observed that only the presence of a strong Iran could safeguard the security and existence of Israel and other nations of the region.
Pointing out to a recent Radio Israel news justifying the purchase, by Israel, of 50 new F-16 fighters, explaining at length that a country surrounded by enemies needed to be armed and prepared, the same Radio would immediately denounce, "with an arogant accent", Iran's intention of buying three new nuclear reactors from Russia, Nimrooz said "if Israel think that it need most modern arms, including 50 F-16, this is Iran's perfect right to arm itself with nuclear weapons, the best of the fighters and advanced military arsenals, as it is encircled by big and small enemies".
The paper that has the largest circulation of Iranian publications outside Iran and is opposed to the present Islamic regime of Tehran criticised the Israeli policy of seeking dismemberment of Iran, saying in the view of Israelis, there must be only one strong and domineering nation in the region and that is Israel while Iran, a nation (also) encircled by enemies, must be kept weak, humiliated and allowed to be disintegrated.
"Never during the past 5000 and more years of Iranian history was Israel menaced by a powerful Iran. Was Iran a threat to Israel when it was the gendarme of the Persian Gulf? Could Saddam Hussein dare to attack Kuwait and launch missile over Israel if Iran was not weakened as a result of the bloody, backward, damaging Islamic revolution? When Israel's security was menaced more? Was it when Iran was the dominating power of the region or when it plunged into the abysses of the revolution?" Nimrooz asked.
Observing that by insisting on a strong Iran the paper was not defending the present clerical dictatorship that has brought havoc to both Iran and the Iranians, the paper said Iran must be so strong as to allow the Israelis to live in peace withing their secured borders.
"The Israeli should not forget that they partly owes their survival to the Iranians, to the Iranian Kings who sheltered and protected the Jews, making them citizens of Iran and equal to Iranians, that many Israelis were Iranians before becoming Israeli. Let's not tensions created by an ephemeral, turbulent regime hurts human sentiments in both countries, a mistake that could cause lasting wounds", Nimrooz concluded. NIMROOZ 22100
