AFGHAN WARLORD ABDO HAQ CAPTURED AND SHOT BY TALEBAN

PARIS 26 Oct. (IPS) Former Afghan resistance commander Abdol Haq was executed near Kabul hours after his capture, a Taleban spokesman told the French news agency AFP.

"He was shot with a Kalashnikov automatic rifle around 1:00 pm", Abdol Hanan Hemat, head of the Taleban's Bakhtar information agency said.

Hemat said two other people who were detained with Abdol Haq, a hero of the Afghan resistance war against the Soviet occupation from 1979-89, were executed with him.

The execution was carried out in the outskirts of Kabul, the official said.

Abdol Haq was detained in Afghanistan on Friday. He was reportedly on a mission to establish support for an uprising against the Taleban.

Haq And another pro-Zaher Shah Commander, Ahmad Karzai, had entered Afghanistan to try to rally Poshtoons to the formation of a Loya Jirga presided over by the former Monarch.

Hemat said Abdol Haq and the two others were accused of spreading US propaganda and "trying to encourage people to rebel"

"Based on a ulema (religious dignitaries) warrant which calls for the death penalty for anyone spying for the United States, they were shot dead" the official told AFP. ENDS HAQ SHOT DEAD 261001
