A CIVILISATION LED BY THE ARROGANT US IS A THREAT FOR MANKIND: KHAMENEH’I
TEHRAN 16 Oct. (IPS) In his second scathing attack on the American-British bombing of Afghanistan, Ayatollah Ali Khameneh’i of Iran denounced the belligerent attitude of the United States and called on the world’s Muslims not to yield to Washington’s militarist bully.
Speaking to representatives of the nation as well as diplomats from Islamic nations present in Tehran on the occasion of "mab’as", or the appointment of Mohammad as prophet of Muslims, Ayatollah Khameneh’i warned the regional countries against "assisting the warmongers", stating that not only this is against the interests of the Islamic Umma (nation), but also "a move against the interests of the whole mankind".
"The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns the bellicose approach of the United States and invites the world nations and governments to safeguarding peace and security, as well as adopting rational approaches to situation", the lamed Iranian leader said in his address, pronounced at the mausoleum of Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the father of the Islamic Republic, near Tehran.
He said the world peace is strongly endangered and seriously threatened today due to the behaviour of the United States in this region and, referring obviously to Pakistan, but also other neighbouring nations that have accepted to provide US forces with facilities, added that regional powers must not help Washington attacking Afghanistan, also a Muslim country.
Mr. Khameneh’i said thought Washington claims that it is fighting terrorism, yet the American reaction towards the recent terrorist attacks is a serious threat against peace in the region and above that, endangering the international peace and stability.
He described as "pretty weak" the U.S. pretext of the presence of a few culprits in Afghanistan for staging a devastating war there and repeated that "no sound mind, even the pro-American politicians", were not convinced with that explanation (for bombing out Afghanistan).
He said the heavy pounding of Afghanistan is a "great injustice" against the oppressed Afghan nation, adding, "today, the discriminating, revengeful and hostile approach adopted by the oppressor powers in Afghanistan, as well as the racist-Zionist (Israel) regime's taking advantage of this chaotic situation in committing more cruel crimes in Palestine, have all imposed truly painful conditions over the whole Islamic world."
"The civilisation whose standard bearer is the United States today, is presenting a warmonger facade coupled with injustice, arrogance, and irrational behaviour, and that is the lasting impression that the mankind will have of the real identity of that civilization, which is, despite their claim, an incompetent image", the official Iranian news Agency IRNA reported from the ceremonies.
Though Iran was one of the first nations to have officially condemned as a "terrorist act" the 11 September suicide operations in the United States, but Ayatollah Khameneh’i has gradually accentuated his attacks on Washington, repeating that the aim of the US Administration in attacking Afghanistan was not to topple the ruling Taleban or even getting Mr. Osama Ben Laden, the man suspected of being the mastermind behind the operations, but destabilising the Islamic Republic for it’s role as the flag bearer of the oppressed against oppressors.
To confirm his theory, Mr. Khameneh’i reminded that talking about "crusade" between Islam and Christianity, intentionally or not, presents a big threat for the mankind and humanity.
"The Islamic world's sensitive and crucial task under the tough current conditions is to ward off their internal enmities and differences, and to embrace the vitally essential Islamic unity, thus moving towards the revival of the Islamic grandeur", he further said.
