REV. GUARDS COMMANDER AND SOME OFFICERS EXECUTED IN IRAN
PARIS, 27 Jan. (IPS) A high-ranking officer from the Revolutionary Guards has been executed, alongside some officers, according to the Students Movement Coordinating Committee for Democracy in Iran (SMCCDI), based in the United States.
"The Islamic republic regime has executed the famous and maverick Brigadier-General Mohammad-Mehdi Dozdoozani following a speedy trial, the movement said on Monday, without giving any source for the information.
Dozdoozani, a hero of war and one of the high commanders of the Pasdaran, or the ayatollah’s Praetorian Guard, was executed along with several other officers in the Heshmatieh Military facilities, the SMCCDI added.
If the information were correct, this would be the first time that a high-ranking officer of the Guards is executed in Iran.
There was not news about the executions in the Iranian press and IPS was not able to get any confirmation.
According to the SMCCDI, Dozdoozani became an open critic of the regime following the endorsement of a famous public letter entitled "We're Combatants". In this letter signed by tens of officers of the Pasdaran, the regime's leaders were attacked for corruption and injustices.
"Arrested, last summer, for disobedience and promotion of rebellion, Dozdoozani and several of his officers were finally executed on the request of Ayatollah Ali Khameneh'i, the Leader of the Islamic Republic in order to create fear among thousands of other members of the Revolutionary Guards, disenchanted by the regime", the Movement added.
