PARIS, 9 Mar. (IPS) As all senior Iranian civilian and military officials reiterated Thursday their determination to continue nuclear activities, the clerical-led authorities, in a pure Nazi-style propaganda ordered the press to downplay the importance of the referral of Iran’s nuclear issue to the United Nations Security Council and focus on the “victory” of the Islamic Republic at the International Atomic Energy Agency over the United States and its allies.
There were no head lines on the outcome of the last meeting of the IAEA’s Board of directors that, on Wednesday 8 March 2006, decided to refer the Iranian controversial nuclear issue to the Security Council for possible sanctions, except few confusing lines amid a whole panorama of development at the Vienna-based international nuclear watchdog.
Since NPT is dead, there is no justification for Iran to stay in it.
“(Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Serguei) Lavrov: There is no military solution to the Iranian Nuclear Crisis”, said Jame Jam, a daily published by the leader-controlled Voice and Visage (Radio and Television) of the Islamic Republic.
“No New Resolution Against Iran at the IAEA”, said the independent newspaper “Sharq” under a small title, while the article about the issue consisted of large excerpts, mostly from western wire agencies, about the debates at the Agency, including statements by Iranian delegates expressing their angers at the decision.
Same attitude could be find with the news agencies, where the humiliating defeat suffered by the belligerent diplomacy of fundamentalist and hard line President Mahmoud Ahmadi Nezhad at the hand of American and its European allies, backed by Russia, was presented as a victory, quoting IAEA’s boss Mohammad ElBarade’i saying “Iran has the right to nuclear technology” or highlighting the fact that there was no resolution on Iran.
However, the most interesting item came from Mr. Hoseyn Shari’atmadari, an intelligence officer appointed by Ayatollah Ali Khameneh’i as the Executive Editor of the radical daily “Keyhan”, repeating his earlier calls on the officials to get out of the Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
“By referring illegally the Iranian dossier to the Security Council, the IAEA has in fact violated and annulled the NPT. Now the question is what means and what justifies our presence in the NPT that has no meaning. Is it not time for out officials to get out of the NPT in order to preserve the interest, the dignity and the wisdom of our nation?” wrote Mr. Shari’atmadari, referring to the three basic principles on which the officials must conduct the affairs of the Islamic regime.
Considered as the virtual Propaganda Minister of the Islamic Republic, he added in his untitled article that “The United States and its allies are not in a position to counter the Islamic Republic and the Security Council is not a place where America can put in motion its warmongering”.
Like wise, all high-ranking officials, from the leader down to Heads of the three powers and military commanders insisted on the regime’s determination to go ahead with its nuclear activities.
If the Iranian nation and government step back on their legitimate right concerning the nuclear energy today, the story will not end there and the Americans will make another pretext", Ayatollah Khameneh’i told members of the Experts Assembly.
Observing that nuclear energy is a “real necessity”, Mr. Khameneh’i, who has the last word on all the important domestic and foreign affairs of the regime urged the officials to continue Iran’s march towards atomic technologies “without bowing to the enemies or pressures”.
If the Iran step back on the nuclear energy today, the Americans will make another pretext.
While Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the Chairman of the Expediency Council who the official news agency IRNA referred to him as (also) the Speaker of the Assembly of Experts repeated same accusations against the psychological warfare conducted by United States against the Islamic Republic in the past 27 years, warning however that since the referral to the Security Council Iran has entered in a “new situation”, Mr. Ahmadi Nezhad assured that he would “defend by all means Iranian people’s right to nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes”.
Same tune was played by the Speaker of the Majles (Iranian Parliament) Qolamali Haddad Adel and senior military commanders, promising “burning defeat” if anyone dared to attack Iran.
The Security Council is expected to meet next week to take up the Iran issue. Diplomats involved in the crisis expects the Council would, as a first step, to “invite” Tehran to stop all atomic activities and return to negotiations table with the European Troika in the one hand and Russia on the other.
“In case the call is not heard, then the Council would start applying progressive pressures that coul end with an economic embargo”, one diplomat said. ENDS IRAN NUCLEAR PROPAGANDA 9306
