Arabs to Iran: Don’t Interfere With Our Affairs

Published Tuesday, November 27, 2007

A Persian proverb says: “A man was not allowed enter a village, he was insisting to go to the house of the mayor”. This is exactly the attitude of the Islamic Republic of Iran with the Arab-Israeli conflict.

In statements, both the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenehei and his fanatic President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have rejected the Middle East Peace Conference that was inaugurated on 26 November in Annapolis, in the State of Maryland, near Washington D.C, as “resembling to autumn leaves” and assured that it would bring “nothing to the Palestinians, but Arab nations recognizing the Jewish State”.

Iran is not invited to the Annapolis meeting, at which the majority of the Arab countries, including the most important and influential of them, like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and even Syria are taking part.

Iran is not invited to the meeting, at which the majority of the Arab countries, including the most important and influential of them, like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and even Syria are taking part, alongside the two main actors, Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

Iran is not an Arab nation. The religion of the majority of its population is Shi’a, an Islamic sect considered as heretic by other Muslims, who are Sunnis. It has no common frontier with Israel or Palestine. Moreover, while it leaves no stone unturned in order to impose itself as one of the players of the conflict, Arab countries tells Iran to stay away from a crisis that do not concerns them – except the fact that Jerusalem, besides being the most sacred place for the Jews and the Christians, is also a considered Muslim’s third holiest city after Mecca and Medina, and therefore as such, is a matter of concern to all Muslim nations.

Yet, like a nanny who pretends to be more caring of the baby than the mother, the Islamic Republic of Iran spends more time and energy and money to perpetuates the Middle East crisis than even the Palestinian organisations opposed to coexistence with the Israelis, let alone the majority of the Palestinians who have recognised Israel.

A recent survey carried out by one of the many so-called strategic research and studies centres – the Islamic Republic has proportionally more such organisms than the United States – found that the Iranian media, newspapers, radio and televisions as well as internet websites, officials and nongovernmental together, have devoted in a single month more news, commentaries and analysis to the Palestinian question than those of four major Arab nations plus Israel and the Palestine Authority combined.

The same survey, kept secret for obvious reasons, said a quite important number of the questioned were of the opinion that not being Semite, like the Arabs and the Israelis, but of Indo-European origin, Iran wrongly is made part of the Middle East, that is should get out of that geographical and cultural region and adhere to Central Asia, an area with which it has more historical and cultural attaches than with Arabs.

Majorith of Iranians think the Arab-IsraeliPalestinian conflict is not any of their business.

Even more interesting was that the study showed a great majority of the Iranian population think that the Arab-Israeli-Palestinian crisis is not “any of their business”, that the more the media and the officials talk about the Palestinian issue, the more anti-Palestinian sentiments grows among the people, that to the question of what do they think about all sorts of financial, military, humanitarian, medical, educational support and assistance the Iranian Government provides to radical Islamist Palestinian organizations, a great number of the interviewees have said, “a lamp needed at home is forbidden for the mosque”, meaning that it is better the Government pay more attention to the welfare of its own population than the Palestinians.

While most of the Arab countries, including the Palestinians, have admitted the existence of Israel one way or another, while one of the strongest of Muslim nations, namely Turkey, not only has diplomatic relations with Israel, but also advanced military and intelligence cooperation, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran not only refuses the two States formula which the international community considers as the best way to end the Arab-Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but it calls for the destruction of Israel and the organization of a national referendum among the “original population” of Palestine, Muslims, Christians and Jews, aimed at choosing the nature of their regime.

However, in his typical ignorance, Mr. Ahmadinejad did not realized that by eradicating Israel, he would also wipe off the world’s map Palestine and with it Jerusalem.

The decision of Damascus to take part at the Annapolis conference was a bad blow to both radical Palestinian Islamist groups like Hamas, but also for Tehran, which had predicted that Syria would not take part in this American-sponsored meeting.

In an interview with the London-based, Saudi-owned newspaper Al Sharq al Awsat, Mr. Hoseyn Shari’atmadari, the Editor of the hard line daily Keyhan expressed Iran’s “surprise” at the Syrian decision, while, according to the official Iranian media, Mr. Ahmadinejad has “regretted” the participation of Saudi Arabia.

The surprise of the Iranians at the last minute Syrian decision was turned into humiliation because the pro-government media had predicted that Damascus would not go to Annapolis.

According to experts, any hint by Israel that it might leave Golan Heights against peace and full diplomatic relations, and it is finished not only with the so-called Tehran-Damascus strategic alliance, sealed in 1980 after Saddam Hussein, the hanged Iraqi dictator attacked Iran, but also the slow but certain dead of Iranian-backed fundamentalist groups Hamas and the Lebanese Hezbollah, at least as military groups.

The reason that Hafez Assad, the father of the present Syrian boss decided to side with the non Arab Iran while all other Arab countries had run to help Baghdad, was that Syria and Iraq were ruled by two antagonists wins of the Baas Party.

To save face, Iran announced on Tuesday the meeting in Tehran of more than ten Palestinian groups opposed to the peace process. “Palestinian groups fighting for the liberation of their homeland from Israeli occupation have expressed the desire to come to Tehran and meet together”, Mr. Qolamhoseyn Elham, the Government official spokesman announced, saying “the Islamic Republic of Iran is the home of the Palestinians who care about their nation”.

The same that the Iranians are resenting the massive financial and military and medical support their Government gives the Palestinian and the Lebanese fundamentalist groups, assistance that amounts to over a billion US Dollars, most of Palestinians and Lebanese members of the Hamas or the Hezbollah also are against the dependence and the allegiance of their officials towards the Iranian ayatollahs.

Iranians were hoping that Syria would not go to Annapolis

“What we have got in exchange for the money and the old military equipments the Iranians give us is total isolation from the rest of the world, massive unemployment, greatest misery, abandon from other Arab brothers, cut of all financial and economic help we used to get from the international community and f course, more Israeli destructions and killings”, said one Palestinian, commenting on the “lamentable situation” of Hamas, which he also accuses of not only having caused one of the Palestinians worst fratricide war, but also the creation of two mini Palestine, with itself ruling in quasi dictatorship over the Gaza strip.
