Is Ali Khameneh’i “Cleaning” His House?

Published Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Tehran, 10 June (RoozOnline-IPS)      Who is behind the unprecedented revelations made by an unknown lawmaker who exposed the octopus of corruption in the Islamic Republic of Iran? Is Ayatollah Ali Khameneh’i, the all powerful leader of the regime trying to clean his house from senior corrupt elements of the ruling theocracy? And how to explain the silence of the people whose names had been given as senior corruptors?

A film of Mr. Abbas Palizar, a member of the Investigative Committee of Iran’s Majles, or Parliament, revealing the staggering level of corruption among some of the highest ranking Iranian ruling ayatollahs and militaries are now available on the Internet for the public.

Most of the ayatollahs Mr. Palizar named as "profiters" and corrupts are among the most senior cleric rulers of the Islam-based Iranian regime.

At speeches at the University of the north-western City of Hamadan and another at the University of Shiraz, the center of the southern Fars province, Mr. Palizar also revealed that the plane ‎crash that killed, Iran’s former minister of transportation during Khatami’s ‎presidency was the work of sabotage by insiders, while the crash of helicopter that ‎killed the former Commander of the Land Forces of the Passdaran, General Ahmad Kazemi, was at the least ‎‎“suspicious”.‎

Who is Abbas Palizar?‎

Mr. Palizar, who is reported to be close to the fanatic Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is the “Executive secretary” of the Research Unit of the Majles and a former responsible person to draw up a plan to punish those ‎who committed economic disruption and prior to being the head the Majles’ Research Unit, ‎he was the advisor to the Economic Committee of the Parliament and the Chairman and ‎spokesperson of the Board of Trustees of the House of Iranian Industrialists (Khane ‎Sanatgaran’e Iran).

Speaking on the third of June at the Hamadan University, Mr. Palizar called the country’s Judiciary power which is led by Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, a close friend of the Iranian leader, Ayatollah Ali Khameneh’i, “the center of economic corruption” and forcefully ‎asserted that neither the judiciary branch nor the State Inspectorate Organization would ‎cooperate with the Males in its investigations over corruption.

“The State Inspectorate ‎Organization strived to prevent the investigative committee of the Majles from gaining ‎access to the existing corruption cases and to accomplish our duty. However, with the passage of a year, we eventually gained access to some of the files we were investigating”, he said.‎

Ayatollah Emami Kashani
The soft-speaking Friday preacher of Tehran is one of the corrupt ayatollahs.

“One day one of these clerics came and said ‎that he had a disabled son and wanted to build a physical therapy centre to be run under ‎his management. We registered the centre. Then he came and said that he desired to have ‎a financial support and said he wanted for support the Dehbid ‎stone mines in Fars province, a mine that has the best stones in the world. ‎After that, he came again asking as yet another financial support the license to operate of another stone mine in Zanjan ‎province. Today, the cleric operates four mines and we don’t know much about the physical therapy ‎centre”, Mr. Palizar said.

When students pressed him for more details and the name of the ‎cleric, Mr. Palizar named the soft speaking, fatherly looking Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani, a member of the powerful Council of the Guardians and one of the 4 temporary Friday prayers of the Capital, a senior cleric close to the leader and one who, in every sermon, speaks about fighting corruption, the concept of being indifferent to material wealth and the obligation of living modest.

“Another ayatollah once went to ‎the leader and said that they wanted to build a law university for women in Qom. The leader agreed and he got ‎the license to do that. Immediately after that however he requested the Dena Tire Company as financial support for the projected university. The then Industries minister Mr. Nematzadeh told him that he would give him the company at the price of 126 billion Tomans (about $126 ‎million). The real market value of the company was 600 billion Tomans ($600 million). ‎Soon, these gentlemen were asking for discounts on the price of the tire company and ‎eventually settled for 10 billion Tomans (about $10 million). But then they said that they ‎did not have the money and so would pay 80 percent of the price in installments. ‎Nematzadeh accepted that. But they returned and said that they did not even have the 20 ‎percent in cash but would pay it by selling some assets of the company. This is how ‎easily he acquired the company, and then sold it in the market soon after”,Mr. Palizar said at Hamadan.

Again, when students ‎asked for the name of the cleric, Palizar mentioned Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi, a former Head of the Judiciary and another current member of the same Council of Guardians that is charged to investigate and approve all candidates for all elections in the Islamic Republic, who is also the new leader of the Teachers of Qom Theological Center, which is the ‎most important grouping of the conservative clerics in Iran. ‎

Dubbed as Iranian Robespierre, Ayatollah Yazdi was known for his fiery speeches against all the counter-revolutionaries, all those engaged in corruption, all those not in line of the leader.

Dubbed as Iranian Robespierre, Ayatollah Yazdi was known for his fiery speeches against all those involved in corruption. He is himself one of the senior corrupt cleric.

Palizar continued with his revelations: “Ayatollah Yazdi continued his drive and wrote a letter ‎to Mr. Foruzesh, the then minister of Industries arguing that his son, Hamid was jobless ‎and requested that arrangements be made so he could export wood from the forests of ‎northern Iran. It is interesting that Hamid Yazdi was not jobless, but a director general at the Judiciary. ‎But soon the forests of the north were looted and instead, they arrested a group of local residents for cutting down trees, which they did in amounts sufficient for their ‎personal needs and imprisoned them, leading to riots in front of the prison where they were ‎detained.‎.

In Shiraz, Mr. Palizar mentioned another case of fraud concerning Iran Khodro car manufacturing ‎plant. “Without any justification, Iran Khodro gave Persia cars (a brand of the French Peugeot assembled in Iran) to judges ‎at half the market price, and the rest was supposed to have been paid in installments by ‎buyers of the vehicles, most of which were never paid.

“But this largesse did lead to ‎protests by others. For example, a group calling itself members of the Nahjol-Balaghe Foundation ‎came and said that they wanted 500 cars with the same terms. And who do you think are ‎the members of this foundation? None other than Hojjatoleslam Ali Akbar Nategh Nouri, former Speaker of the Majles, former Head ‎of the Special Investigative Unit of the Leader’s Office, Mohsen Refighdoust, former ‎head of the Mostazafin (Deprived) Foundation and the first Minister of Pasdaran, Mr. Habibollah Asqar Oladi, the former Secretary of the ‎conservative ‘Jamiate Motalef Islami’ i.e. Islamic Coalition Association, which became Islamic Coalition Party, Mr. Moezi, a deputy ‎director of the Leader’s office, etc.”, he added.

After this came another foundation, ‎Hamgaraie Andisheh belonging to Hojjatoleslam Ali Falahian, former Intelligence minister, responsible for the case known as “serial murders” of several popular politicians and intellectuals, and Aayatollah Elm Alhoda, a radical cleric of the holly city of Mash-had, in north-eastern Iran.‎

According to Mr. Palizar, the Tabas Stone Mining ‎Company and twelve other large mines in the in Khorasan province in north eastern Iran belongs to Aytollah Va’ezi Tabasi, one of the closest friends of the leader who is also his personal ‎representative in that Province.‎

Mr. Modalal, the son in law of Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi, who is also a source of emulation, is the king ‎of sugar and of the sugar mafia in Iran, working with a certain Mohammad Reza Yusefi both of them willing to pay 700 billion Tomans ($700 million) in hush ‎money when the case was exposed”.‎

Palizar ended his expose by naming Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the second most important and influential personality in Iran after the leader and his family members to be ‎economically corrupt and said “Their financial corruption is so wide that it is not ‎possible to list them. The cost of water melon fed to horses of one of the daughters of Mr. Hashemi Rafsanjani is over 100.000 Tomans (100 USD). They possess a big oil company in Canada in association with the sister of Mr. Hashemi Rafsanjani and one of his sons, Mehdi, was filed while abusing beautiful girls ye used to hire.

Mohammad Yazdi
The fiery former Head of Judiciary is named as yet another senior corrupt ayatollah

“But one of them is in their lack of payment of taxes to the ‎government.”

Moving to a different area, Mr. Palizar revealed that the cause for the crash of the plane that carried senior officials of the Islamic regime, including Mr. Rahman Dadman the Transportation minister of the moderate Mohammad Khatami in 2002 was intentional, as reported in a 1000 pages investigation, but he did not say who was behind the “intentional crime”.

As for General Ahmad Kazemi, the former commander of the Passdaran ground forces who ‎was killed in the helicopter crash in 2006 in western Iran, the lawmaker just said that the officer had ordered the closure of a mine that belonged to Ayatollah Abolqassem Khaz’ali, another senior cleric, saying while the case of the crash of Mr. Dadman’s plane was known, this one is “dubious”.

As the list got longer, Palizar mentioned the importation of contraband through one of the ‎airports called Payam and said, “The grand smuggler of Payam airport has 1,500 court ‎cases for smuggling, but nobody has arrested him yet because he is under the protection ‎of Mr. Nategh Nouri”.

In an interview with Radio Farda, the Persian service of the Prague-based Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Mr. Palizar has said that all the things he has said in his conferences at the two universities are based on facts and documents.

Asked by the Radio if the leader, Mr. Khameneh’i is aware of the cases, he said “I don’t know if the leader is aware, but we were investigating corruption at the Judiciary power. I have not heard these cases from other people, but these are based on documents that the State Inspectorate Organisation had established and where I work.

Would these people be tried and sentenced? To the question, Mr. Palizar says some of them have been tried, but either had been cleared or freed with small amount of bails, “something which is an insult to the nation”, he said, considering that almost all the people mentioned and their families are among the wealthiest people in Iran.

Ali Khamenehi
Is the megalomaniac Iranian leader decided to clean his house from corrupt elements?

At the same time, a source of the Intelligence Ministry has told the independent, pro-reform internet daily RoozOnlone that Mr. Palizar has had access to more than 120 corruption cases, including one that concerns the hard line Keyhan newspaper, a daily known for twisting facts and fabricating cases against intellectuals and reformists, and of of which Mr. Khameneh’I has appointed one of his advisors, Mr. Hoseyn Shari’atmadari, an interrogator, dubbed as the leader’s Goebbls, as Editor.

While some of the cases Mr. Palizar revealed are new, others, concerning the leading ayatollahs and civilians, are open secrets for the‎ Iranians in general.

The question which arises from the revelations is who is behind him? And how to explain the silence of the accused people?

Even though that Mr. Palizar is reported to be close to Mr. Ahmadinejad, who was largely elected on his promises to fight corruption, yet it is certain that considering the power and importance of the people the small lawmaker has accused, the support of the President is not enough for this case. ENDS CORRUPTION 10608

dear rostam i see you are just another frustrated confused person who can not read. if you had read my comments you would have realised that i dont wish any arabinisation of my country and certainly dont agree with a lot of what the mullahs do. but i love the fact that they stand up to the west, yankess and the zionizt regime in isreal. and if you have any kind of class it clearly states at the top to be civil using the words you have is further proof of your ignorance towards discussion. im afraid it is the days of the bullys such as your little self that are numbered. over to you sir.

Am not getting it. How the mullah is cleaning house? Your article just repeated the news- where was the analogy to see that he was indeed cleaning house????. Probably wishful thinking on your end. If you can not analyze it, then don't basterize it either. You need to either stick to reporting the news, or at least do a better job analyzing the story. I am really disappointed with your site. Peace!

Mr Palizar mentioned something known for long years, and the regime is not afraid of being called "thieves", "terrorists", "murderrers" and so on.

Ayatollah Khameneh'i
In a staggering move, Mr. Abbas Palizar named several highest-ranking Iranian ayatollahs as among the biggest corrupt figures of the Iranian theocracy.
