Paris, 11 June (IPS) As expected, The man who created sensation on 3 May 2008 by naming more than 44 high-ranking personalities, including nine senior clerics as the biggest corrupt people in the Islamic Republic establishment was arrested, charged with “confusing public opinion, slandering, dissemination of false accusations and unpaid loans contacted from a bank etc.. and send behind bars.
Speaking at two provincial universities in Hamadan and Shiraz last month, Mr. Abbas Palizdar, a former member of the Majles Investigation Committee, revealed how senior ayatollahs and their families, as well as high-ranking civilians and officers of the Revolutionary Guards have profited from their influence and positions to obtain from governments highly profitable mines, factories, import licences for sugar and cigarettes etc…
The arrest of Palizdar by a tribunal dealing with the State’s employees came as conservative and pro-Government media mounted a concerted charge against Mr. Palizdar, divulging that he himself is a corrupt person, close to the pro-reform groups.
Among the corrupt clerics, all of them conservatives figures close to the megalomaniac leader of the ruling theocracy, Ayatollah Ali Khameneh’i and he named Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi, former Head of the Judiciary, Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani, one of the Tehran provisory Friday preachers, Hojjatoleslam Ali Akbar Natq Nouri, former Speaker of the Majles and Head of the Leader’s Office for Investigations and also Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the former president, who is considered as the regime’s second most powerful man after the leader.
His arrest by a tribunal dealing with the State’s employees came as conservative and pro-Government media mounted a concerted charge against Mr. Palizdar, divulging that he himself is a corrupt person, close to the pro-reform groups.
“The declaration of a person named Palizdar, a man in contact with outside, is part of a plot hatched by pro-reform groups”, wrote the radical daily Keyhan, a mouthpiece of Mr. Khameneh’i.
The arrest of Palizdar is a warning to Ahmadinejad to stop the repeat of such events.
At the same time, Government and Majles spokesmen havce denied any links and relations with Mr. Palizdar, the director of a dairy product firm who, according to the press, refuses to pay a 60 USD loan contacted years ago from a bank to create his dairy company.
Though Mr. Palizdar was among people who supported the election of Mr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the mayorship of Tehran years ago, but now officials close to the fanatic President say they have not heard the name of Palizdar before his unprecedented revelations.
According to Keyhan and other conservative media, the reason Mr. Palizdar made his sensational speeches is exactly his corrupt personality.
Nevertheless, Iranian political analysts think that the arrest of Mr. Palizdar is a warning to the very person of the President to stop such events in the future, for, if repeated, it would destabilise a regime which, because based on Islam, is supposed to be the materially cleanest of all the world’s ruling systems.
